MILLING MACHINES

INTRODUCTION     Go to Top
This catalogue presents our B-MAX milling tool system.
In any machining operation, the choice of cutting tool and insert grade plays an important part in determining the end result, both in terms of finish and economy. Milling is certainly no exception, but to facilitate the selection of the right tool, a number of other factors must also be considered, including:

  • power and condition of the machine
  • surface finish requirements
  • spindle and work piece rigidity
  • cutting conditions
  • economic tool life
The B-MAX system is a wide range of purpose built milling tools including face mills, square shoulder face mills and side and face milling cutters for machining ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The design is characterized by the following features:
  • Adjustable axial supports in all facemills over 125 mm in diameter
  • Adjustable shims in side and facemilling cutters
  • Three point insert location

The three point insert location ensures secure and accurate indexing of the indexable carbide inserts.

  • Standard milling inserts

These are not inserts with corner radius but with parallel lands for maintaining better surface finish of the machined surface. The inserts are supported by exchangeable seats manufactured from hardened tool steel. The cutter bodies are also locally hardened to an extremely high degree of hardness beneath each seat. This is a protective measure to guard against damage to the cutter body. Standardization of spare parts and inserts facilitates effective machining process and tool planning.

FACE MILLS     Go to Top

Due to the wide variety of mining cutter types and insert grades, the B-MAX system meets all demands of face milling operations.
The system comprises milling cutters with positive and negative cutting geometries.

SEMI - FINISHING MILLING CUTTERS
WITH POSITIVE CUTTING GEOMETRY

R/L B65.2-…- 20
R/L B65.2-…- 40

WITH NEGATIVE CUTTING GEOMETRY
R/L B65.1-…- 20
R/L B65.1-… -40
These are differential, coarse pitch cutters with adjustable axial supports. 12 or 15 mm square inserts are used where large chip spaces are necessity. Suitable in operations where the machine power limits the rate of stock removal. Use negative rakes for cast iron and positive rakes for machining steel. Available diameters - from 125 - 315 mm.

FINISHING MILLING CUTTERS WITH POSITIVE CUTTING GEOMETRY
R/L B65.2-…- 10
R/L B65.2-…- 30

WITH NEGATIVE CUTTING GEOMETRY
R/L B65.1-…- 10
R/L B65.1-…- 30

These are close pitch cutters with adjustable axial supports. They use the same 12 or 15 mm inserts. Used on material where low feed per tooth is a necessity, e.g. where spalling can occur. Applied also in operations where machine power and chip space do not limit the recommended feed per tooth.
Available diameters - from 80 to 315 mm. Positive cutters with diameters of 60 - 100 mm have differential pitch.

WITH POSITIVE CUTTING GEOMETRY
R/L B65.4-…- 10

WITH NEGATIVE CUTTING GEOMETRY
R/L B65.3-…- 10

Extra close pitch cutters with axially adjustable shims and 12 mm square inserts. Primarily employed on thin wall components with recesses in the working surface. Suitable for short chipping brittle materials and in operations where low feed is desirable.

SQUARE SHOULDER FACEMILLING    Go to Top
WITH POSITIVE CUTTING GEOMETRY

R/L B62.2-…- 10

This square shoulder face mills range comprises cutters with diameters 50 - 160 mm. Used for milling slots and shoulders. Cutters with diameters of up to 100 mm have fixed shims, and those with diameters from 125 - 160 mm have differential pitch and are with axially adjustable shims. Triangular inserts of 16 or 22 cutting edge length are used.

CUTTERS FOR MILLING ALUMINIUM     Go to Top

Machining in aluminium or similar materials often demands increased positive rakes and clearances so as to reduce edge build-up. vibrations and edge frittering. The B-MAX system for machining aluminium includes production of face mills and square shoulder face mills with extra positive rakes.
The milling programme includes cutters with:

  • Eccentric pin setting providing quick and secure basic setting. All cutters are also designed to counter the effects of centrifugal forces by 5 o inclination between the shim and the wedge, which prevents shim movement.
  • Considerable lowering of vibrations and reducing the noise level due to differential pitch. These cutters are balanced since machining in aluminium is done at considerably high cutting speeds. Cutters with large diameters are with reduced weight by means of a recessed body.

FACEMILLING
R/L 565.2-...- 20 AL

Face mills are available in coarse pitch design. Manufactured with diameters from 80-315 mm, as those with diameters from 125-315 have differential pitch and are balanced.

SQUARE SHOULDER FACEMILLING
R/L B62.2-...- 20 AL
R/L B62.2-...- 10 AL

Cutters with diameters between 80 - 100 mm have a coarse pitch. Close pitch cutters with diameters from 125 - 160 mm are characterized with differential pitch and are with are with balanced cutter bodies.

SIDE AND FACEMILLS     Go to Top

The production programme includes:

FULL SIDE AND FACEMILLS B31.2 with positive cutting geometry.
These cutters are primarily used for milling slots. 11 or 16 mm triangular inserts are used.

HALF SIDE AND FACEMILLS B31.4 with positive cutting geometry.
Primarily used for milling side faces as well as a number of cutters to obtain any desirable milling width.
Best results are obtained if the side and face mills are used in combination with a flywheel.
